We are here in Ann Arbor participating in Hip Hop Congress' 7th Annual Midwest Summit and reflecting off of the recent success of our first event with Trojan Magnum, which brought over 500 people and some of the best in the Midwest's emcee talent, including Subverse, MarvWon, Supa MC, Ketchphraze, 4Nzix, Hatch, Kadence MC, Envy, JR Black, Metasyons, and Beedie. The contest was structured on three rounds where each emcee addressed the crowd with an a capella verse (no beat), followed by 16 bars of freestyle, and finally an original song. Contestants were judged by a panel of Detroit's heavy hitters which included Royce Da 5'9'', Trick Trick, Guilty Simpson, One Be Lo, Houseshoes, Nick Speed, and special guest Opio from Souls of Mischief/Hiero. In addition to the Emcee competition, Bboy Ivan hosted an open bboy cypher battle with DJ Psycho on the 1's and 2's, DJ Ichi the Killer wowed the crowd with a turntable showcase, and Kayj curated live art from local talent as the perimeter to the legendary stage below St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit known as "The Shelter" [feat. in the Hollywood;s blockbuster "8 Mile"].

Criteria of the Magnum Live Large Emcee Competition was based on style, delivery, content, originality, cadence, creativity, personality, stage presence, structure, crowd control, and energy with a point system that determined the top three competitors. Every emcee represented hard, but in the end it was MarvWon, Supa MC, and Ketchphraze who would move on the finals to compete with the top three from each region: San Francisco, Miami, and New York for a $50,000 recording contract with Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace Records.
